Home / Drive / Track Days

Driving my 540i at Thunderhill, Turn 5. This track was designed primarily as a training course and has lots of safe run-off areas in case you drive over your head.

High speed driving schools tend to come in two flavors: a relative free-for-all where the primary emphasis is on track time, and driving practice where an instructor usually rides with you to help improve your driving skills. The former is intended more for people with prior track experience but I still prefer having an instructor show me how to improve my times. I don't know if it's typical, but the Golden Gate Chapter of the BMW CCA emphasis safety and instructor training. Since instructors are all volunteers the events are typically half what a commercial track school would cost.

The Golden Gate Region of the Porsche Club of America has produced some good track tutorials for regional tracks. They were written by Henry Watts and Brad Maker.
