Comments from Robin Yang: We started working on the SST armor before the movie came out. Unfortunately we didn't finish until after the movie's release and even then were still working out some of the finishing details. (In some of the early photos you can see we didn't have the correct pouches or weapons.) The body armor is made of a rubber product called EST-40. This is another example of having to use the same materials/techniques as they did with the originals in order to make accurate reproductions. As far as I know we are the only prop group who did this; due to the large number actually made for the movie most people purchased screen used originals to wear around. We did purchase original jackets, pants and boots to wear but the armor, helmet and weapons are reproductions.
